My Philosophies: Game Edition

On this page you'll find the various ideas and principles I believe in when it comes to playing and designing game mechanics and elements. Most of these are mostly relevant to designing or running TTRPG style games, but there are some that are more broadly applicable.

Play to the Party's Strengths...

Manufacture scenarios for characters to show off what makes them special. Did someone take the Linguist feat? Throw in an encouter that requires speaking all three of their chosen languages.

...But not all the time

If what makes a character special comes in to play too often, it stops being a neat special thing they can do and becomes a necessity that other players will look to pick up.

Active Abilities aren't for Everyone

Some players love to have a whole bunch of different abilities that they have to choose when to actively use and when to save. Others genuinely want to just run up and hit it with a hammer. It’s important to acknowledge and provide for both.
